Pre War

William John Bolton was born in May 1895 in Bishop's Stortford to William and Agnes Bolton. He was baptised on 11 September 1895 at Harrow Green, Essex and went to Somerford Street School, Tower Hamlets, London.  On the 1901 and 1911 Census, the family were living at 16 Gordon Road, Leyton where his father was a railway foreman.


He enlisted in Leyton, Essex, where the family had been living on both the 1901 and 1911 Censuses.   

Wartime Service

He was killed during the Battle of Flers-Courcelette.

Additional Information

His father William received a war gratuity of £3 and pay owing of £2 5s 1d.
