Ernest Lindsay Blunt was born in 1892 in Berkhamsted, Herts, the son of William and Isabella Blunt. He had a younger sister Gertrude born in 1898.
On the 1901 Census the family were living at 154 High Street, Berkhamsted where his father was working as a Grocer Shopkeeper.
Ernest was educated at Berkhamsted School and left in 1910. The family remained living at 154 High Street, Berkhamsted in 1911 at which time Ernest was working as an Assistant Schoolmaster. (His listing in a memorial book of LCC Record of War Service suggests that he worked for London County Council at the time of enlistment).
Wartime Service
Ernest initially served in the 14th Battalion, London Regiment from 1914 as Private 3702 and went to France on 9 May 1915. He was later commissioned into the Royal Garrison Artillery on 4 August 1916 and served with them in the 24th Siege Battery as Lieutenant, later being promoted to Captain.
He was killed in action on 2 November 1918 aged 26, during the Battle of Sambres, east of Le Cateau. He is buried in Pommereuil British Cemetery, France.

His mother received a war gratuity of £9 10s and pay owing of £169 8s 2d.
Probate was granted to his mother Isabella on 15 February 1919 with effects of £445 12s 4d.
