Joseph Charles Blows was born in 1892 in Meldreth, Cambs, the son of Joseph and Sarah Jane Blows and one of four children. (Although registered and baptised as Joseph Charles, he was named on the censuses as Charles or Charley Joseph).
On the 1901 Census the family were living at Spilsby Road, Firsby, Lincolnshire, where his father was working as a pointsman on the railway. They remained there in 1911 at which time Joseph/Charles was working as a railway telegraph lad.
His parents later lived at 13 Police Terrace, Therfield, Royston, Herts.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Boston, Lincolnshire and joined the Lincolnshire Regiment, serving with the 8th Battalion in France from 10 September 1915.
Charles was killed in action and death was presumed on or since 26 September 1915. He has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, France.
Additional Information
His mother received a war gratuity of £3 10s and pay owing of £4 6s 2d. No pension records have been found.
