Pre War

Alfred Charles Reynolds was born in Royston, Herts in 1891 to Alfred Charles and Alice Reynolds. On the 1901 Census he was living with his widowed father and cousin Susan Carter at Barrells Down, Bishop's Stortford. By 1911 he was one of seven boarders at the home of Charles and Emily Ayley at 60 Portland Road, Bishop's Stortford. He married Alice Maud Lawrence on 26 January 1913 at Holy Trinity, Bishop's Stortford and they had a child Violet Alice born in 1916 (who sadly died in 1917).

Wartime Service

He enlisted on 14 November 1915 into the Royal Engineers. On enlistment he was working as an Electrician and was living at 47 Markenfield Road, Guildford, Surrey. He was admitted to the 2nd Canadian Stationary Hospital on 10 February suffering severe influenza (a disease contracted while on active service). He was suffering from pains, aches and chills with a temperature of 102F. He died at 12.00 pm on 14 February 1919.

Additional Information

His widow received a war gratuity of £19 as well as pay owing of £8 5s 10d.
