Pre War

Son of Matilda RUDGE (Nee SKERRITT, formerly REYNARD) and the late John B REYNARD; husband of Eliza Ann (nee FRANCIS) REYNARD of Watford.


His parents married 26 September 1869 at Holy Trinity, Kilburn, London. John died 1884 in the Marylebone, London, district aged 35. Matilda remarried 10 June 1891 at St Stephen the Martyr, Hampstead, London, to Francis William RUDGE. She died 1926 in the Kensington, London, district aged 74; Francis died 1912 in the Romford, Essex, district aged 77.


Henry was born 1876 in the Marylebone district, and married 13 April 1895 at St Paul’s, Lisson Grove, Marylebone; they had four children. He died at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, and was buried 18 November. Eliza never remarried, she died 20 February 1952 in Watford aged 85, and was buried 25 February in Vicarage Road Cemetery.


On the 1881 Census, a scholar aged 5 he lived in Marylebone, with his parents and five siblings. On the 1891 Census, a cabinet maker aged 15, he still lived in Marylebone, with his widowed mother and three siblings. On the 1901 Census, a milk carrier aged 25, he lived in Watford, with his wife and three children. On the 1911 Census, still a milk carrier, aged 37, he still lived in Watford, with his wife and four children.

He appears to have been awarded no medals

Additional Information

His son William died 16* August 1917, and is also commemorated in Watford.
