Pre War
Alfred James Abel Dollemore was born in Barnet, Herts in 1894, son of Alfred Dollemore an Advertising Inspector (B 1871 in Hatfield) and Clara Dollemore (nee Chapman) (B 1870 in Thorne, Bucks).
1901 Census records Alfred aged 6, living with his parents, at 105 Stanstead Road, Lewisham, London. His father, born in Hatfield, worked as a news advertising inspector.
By 1911 now aged 16, Alfred had left school and was working as a Labourer, living at home with his parents and younger sister Avis 3, at 35 Jasmine Grove, Anerley, London, SE. Alfred was working as a warehouseman and his father still an advertising inspector.
Alfred was 20yrs 5mths old when he enlisted at Maidstone on 10/9/1914. His trade was a warehouseman, 5ft 6ins tall, weighed 131lbs, had brown eyes & black hair, He had good physical development. Father was confirmed as Alfred Dollemore, and his mother Clara and sister Avis.
Officially recorded as born in Barnet and was living in Anerlay when he enlisted in Maidstone.
Wartime Service
After enlistment, Arthur was posted to the Royal West Kent Regiment with the Service No. 2237.
He was on Home service between September 1914 and 26th July 1915. The Battalion left Codford by train for Southampton and embarked aboard the S.S. Mount Temple, Disembarking at Le Havre on the night of the 26th/27th July 1915.
Alfred was Killed in Action on 30th September 1916, he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the missing.
Awarded the Victory Medal, British War Medal, and 1915 Star.
