Pre War

Harold Leslie Reading, born in 1898 to William Alfred Reading (Fish Merchant) and Harriet Eliza (nee Roberts) in Beckenham, Kent. He was educated at Aldenham School and attended London University.

Wartime Service

He joined Royal Field artillery from Officer Cadet Unit as Second Lieutenant on 6 May 1917. By 22 Aug 1917 he was with his unit in France and Flanders near Ypres. Killed in action on 19 Nov 1917.

Additional Information

His father, Mr. William of A. Reading, Douglas House, Beckenham, Kent ordered his headstone inscription: "SO PASSED THE STRONG HEROIC SOUL AWAY".
