Pre War

Born on 1 Jul 1871 in Sydney, N.S.W., Australia son of John and Elizabeth Maria (Johnson) Binny. Educated at Haileybury College 1885-1888. Gazetted to 19th (Queen Alexandra's Own Royal) Hussars on 2 Jun 1894 and promoted Major on 6 Jul 1910. Served in South Africa 1899-1900 (MID and DSO). Adjutant of his regiment 1901-04 and of the East Kent Yeomanry 1904-08. On the Staff at Sandhurst 1910-14 when he retired from the Army. He married Marjorie Champion in Jan 1911 at St Peter’s, Eaton Square, London and had two children.

Wartime Service

On the outbreak of the war he was appointed Director of Railway Transports and then appointed to command 10th Royal Welsh Fusiliers in Feb 1916. He was killed in action at Ypres when a shell landed in his dug-out.
