Pre War
Roger Cecil Taylor was born in 1897 in Argentina, the son of Sugar Manufacturer Samuel Taylor and Mary Caroline Tweedsdale.
The family returned to England in March 1902, leaving La Plata, Argentina on the ship Danube and arriving at Southampton, Hants, via Port Elizabeth & Cape Town, South Africa and Madeira.
On the 1911 Census, he was listed as attending the Wells House, preparatory school, Malvern Wells School, Worcestershire. (famous for having Edward Elgar as music teacher for many years), His parents were living at Pouchen House, Boxmoor, Hemel Hempstead.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in and served as a Lieutenant with the 7th Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment.
He was killed in action at Passchendaele, Battle of Ypres on 4 October 1917.
Additional Information
His father, Samuel Taylor received his pay owing of £138 11s 8d. and was granted probate on 5 April 1918 with effects of £213 12s 4d.
