Pre War

convicted and imprisoned 22 October 1901 for striking a superior officer; he was returned to duty 17 December 1901. He was transferred to the Army Reserve 4 December 1903, and discharged 4 December 1912.

The 1911 Census, a platelayer aged 29, he lived in Watford, with his widowed mother, wife and one child.

Wartime Service

He re-enlisted in Hertford; was entitled to the Victory, British and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 24 September 1915, and died in hospital in France.
