Cyril was recorded as born in Aspenden in 1885 to Albert and Eliza. In the 1891 census they were living in Wyddial, Hertfordshire. By 1901 they had moved to Mill End Thaxted and Cyril was working as a sweet factory hand. He married Edith Hewitt in 1912 in Bishop Stortford. Listed on Commonwealth War Graves site as son of Albert and Emma Bentley of Thaxted, Essex. Husband of Edith M Bentley 51 Kimberley Avenue, Seven Kings, Essex.


Cyril enlisted in London on the 10 November 1915. His address at the time was 5 George Street, Euston Road NW London.
