Son of John George and Lily Elizabeth (nee SCOTT) QUAY of Watford; husband of Annie (nee SMITH) QUAY of Grangetown, Sunderland, Co Durham.
His parents married 2 September 1893 at St Dunstan’s, Stepney, London. Lily died 1920 in the Hackney, London, district aged 50, and was buried 27 May in West Ham Cemetery, Essex; John died 1953 in Watford aged 89, and was buried 13 November in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford.
Charles was born 1896 in Stepney, and baptised 2 February 1896 at St Augustine’s, Stepney. He married 1915 in the Sunderland district; they had one child. Annie remarried 10 February 1923 at St Aiden’s, Roker, Co Durham, to Arthur EAGLING.
On the 1901 Census, aged 5 he lived in Brockley, London, with his parents and one sibling. On the 1911 Census, a baker aged 15, he lived in Thornton Heath, Surrey, with his parents and four siblings.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Watford, and was formerly 9757 North Staffordshire Regiment. He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and died of wounds received in action.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, Charles’ Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
