Pre War

Born on 22 Jan 1886 in Luton, Bedfordshire son Rev. Canon Elgood George Punchard D.D. and Catherine Mary (Johnson) Punchard later of St. Mary's Street, Ely, Cambs. Educated at Haileybury College 1899-04 and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant 7 Nov 1906 and joined the battalion in Multan, Pakistan on 15 Jan 1907. Promoted Lieutenant on 1 Apr 1909. He was unmarried.

Wartime Service

Adjutant 1 Jan 1915 and Captain on 24 Mar 1915. He was slightly wounded on 5 Sep 1915 in the North-West Frontier of India but returned to service. He volunteered for service in Mesopotamia in Oct 1916 and was killed in action on the Mael Plain, north of Bagdad.

Additional Information

Brother of Lieutenant Edmund Elgood Punchard who was killed in action on 31 Oct 1914 and is also commemorated on these memorials.
