Hadley Wood Memorial

Pre War

Son of Frederick Henry and Margaret Sarah Pullen and born in Hadley Wood.


Census: 1891 Census living at The Limes, Crescent East, Hadley Wood with parents and siblings, 1901 Census living at 14 Portland Road, Stoke Newington with parents and siblings.


Between 1901- 1907 he was living at 161 Queens Road, Finsbury Park whilst studying at St John's College, where he trained as a electrical engineer.


In the 1911 Census he was staying at Drayton Court Hotel, 1 The Avenue, West Ealing.

Wartime Service

On 17 Sep 1914 William enlisted in the Divisional Engineers - one of the first 20 men to enlist.


On 1 Mar 1915, together with his Unit he set sail for Avonmouth for the Dardenelles, when putting in at Malta to re-coal he was taken off to hospital with spotted fever.


He died in hospital on 12 Mar 1915 as none of the troops aboard ship were allowed off ship in Malta he must have brought the fever with him. Some records show death 'at sea'.
