Pre War
Son of John and Harriet (nee WALLER) PUGH of Watford.
His parents married 5 February 1888 at St Paul’s, Clapham, London. John died 10 March 1933 in Watford aged 71, and was buried 14 March in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Harriet died 26 June 1933 in Watford aged 69, and was buried 28 June, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Henry was born 14 May 1892 in Watford, and baptised 23 November 1892 at St Mary’s, Watford. He attended first Sotheron Road Infants’ School, Watford; then Callowland Board School, Watford, from 9 January 1899 to 24 April 1906. He was employed as a clerk by the London and North Western Railway Company.
On the 1901 Census, aged 8 he lived in Watford, with his parents and one sibling. On the 1911 Census, an apprentice railway clerk aged 18, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and one sibling.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Watford, and was formerly Private 2256 Royal Bucks Hussars.
He appears to have no medals, and was killed in action.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, Henry’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing. There is an article about and a Death announcement for Henry in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 12 October 1918.
