Pre War

Herbert Charles Pryce was born on 10 June 1897, the son of Charles and Agnes Pryce, and was baptised on 30 July 1897 at Leavesden, Herts. 


On the 1901 Census the family were living at Garston, Watford, Herts, (part of the parish of All Saints, Leavesden), where his father was working as a gardener (domestic). By 1911 they had moved to The Lodge, St Pancras Schools, Watford Rural, Herts.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Watford and initially was sent to France on 16 August 1916 with C Company, Heavy Section, Machine Gun Corps, later transferring to the  3rd Battalion, Royal Tank Corps. 


He was killed in action in France on 8 August 1918 and is buried at Le Quesnel Communal Cemetery, Somme, France.

Additional Information

His father received a war gratuity of £10 and pay owing of £15 5s 6d. Pension cards exist giving his father as dependant, and later his mother after his father died. Her address was then recorded as 234 Horseshoe Lane, Garston, Nr Watford. There are no details of the amount of any pension  being paid.
