Born on 28 Aug 1894 in Much Hadham, Hertfordshire son of John and Rose Emily Beak and christened on 25 Sep 1894 in Much Hadham and living in 19 North Road, Hertford in 1901 and 125 Ware Road, Hertford in 1911.
Wartime Service
Enlisted as 1873 Private Hertfordshire Regiment and entered France on 6 Nov 1914.
He obtained a commission on 26 Jun 1917 2nd Lieut Machine Gun Corps and died on active service in 39th Casualty Clearing Station, Italy.

Basil is listed as a Lieutenant on the Regimental memorials, but as a Second Lieutenant in the CWGC and SDITGW databases.
Basil is also commemorated on a headstone in Hertford Corporation Cemetery on which the inscription reads:
