Pre War

Born in 1880 in Bembridge, Isle of Wight son of William Sebastian and Eliza Bastiani. He was living there in 1881 and 1891.


He married Fanny Agatha Holt in 1902 in the Isle of Wight and had one daughter. He lived in Reading, Berks and worked as a hairdresser and newsagent in 1911.

Wartime Service

Walter's grave (not CWGC) bears the inscription:

TO THE VERY DEAR AND HONOURED MEMORY OF MY (Fanny Bastiani) DARLING HUSBAND
AND FATHER OFF MY DAUGHTER MARATHON,
WALTER SEBASTIAN BASTIANI CPL. R.A.F. WHO GAVE HIS LIFE FOR GOD KING AND COUNTRY MAY 14. 1918, AGED 38 YEARS.
GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS, THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS.

Although not a CWGC grace is has a plaque "SITE OF A COMMONWEALTH WAR GRAVE".
