Cecil Frederick Starling was born in Holborn, Middlesex on 2 Dec 1880 (baptised 30 Jun John the Evangelist, Red Lion Square, Camden) to Frederick Arthur Starling, bank clerk, and Mary Ann (nee Cocks).
On the 1881 Census the family of parents, Laurence A (born 1875), Gilbert J (born 1876), Walter R (born 1878) Cecil F, Catherine Cocks (born 1871, cousin) and Annie Auction (born 1865, servant) were living at 13, Red Lion Square, Holborn, London.
On the 1891 Census the family of parents, father Frederick A was a benevolent society clerk, Laurence (clerk, monumental mason), Walter R, Cecil F, John E B Cocks (born 1873, nephew, commercial clerk) and servant Hannah Miller (born 1875) were living at 14, Cavendish Road, Tottenham.
By the 1901 Census the family of parents, Laurence A, Walter R, Cecil F (the brothers were all bank clerks), Katherine M W Cocks (niece, born 1871, artist & teacher), and servant Louisa Cousins were living at 66, Ridge Road, Hornsey, Edmonton.
On the 1911 Census Cecil F was a bank clerk and living with his parents and Walter R at same address as the 1901 Census with a servant Ethel Phipps (born 1879).
Wartime Service
No Service record was found for Cecil. He enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) in Sep/Oct 1914 as Private K/1071 in the 22nd (Service) Battalion (Kensington). This Battalion was part of 99th Brigade, 33 Division and served in France from Nov 1915. On 25 Nov 1915 the 99th Brigade was moved into 2nd Division. Cecil was wounded in May 1916 but recovered and returned to his unit
He may have about this time been transferred to 12th Battalion (Rangers) of the County of London Regiment in the 175 Brigade, 58 (2/1) London Division. In 1917 the Division were taking part in Actions on the Hindenburg (20 May-16 Jun). Cecil was reported Killed in action on 10 Jun 1917, his remains were not recovered and he is remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres

War Gratuity of £12 10s and arrears of £13 14s 7d was paid to his brother Walter.
