Pre War
Son of James Samuel and Adelaide (nee HICKS) POTTER of Watford.
His parents married 22 September 1881 at St Andrew’s, Enfield, Middx. Adelaide died 1926 in Watford aged 66, and was buried 28 January in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; James died 1 October 1943 in Watford aged 85, and was buried 6 October, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
James was born 1893 in Bushey, Herts, and baptised 2 November 1894 at St James’, Bushey. He resided in Watford.
On the 1901 Census, aged 8 he lived in Harrow Weald, Middx, with his parents and five siblings. On the 1911 Census, a general labourer aged 18, he lived in Watford, with his parents and four siblings.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Watford; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 30 July 1915, and died of wounds received in action.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, James’ Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing. Has a entry in the National Roll of the Great War. His brother Edward died 1 July 1916 and also features on Watford Borough Roll of Honour.
