Pre War
Frederick George Barnett was born in 1877, in St Lukes, Islington, London, son of John James Barnett, a Master Baker and Fanny Ann Barnett (nee Hellier). One of twelve children although four died in childhood.
1881 Census records Frederick aged 3, living with his parents, three brothers and three sisters at, 57 Charrington Street, St Pancras, London/Middx. His uncle Henry J. Hellier was living with the family and a Tom Payne a Journeyman Baker is recorded as a Servant.
1891 Census Frederick is recorded as Frank G. Barnett, aged 13, at school, living with his parents, three sisters and brother Harry (15) at 57 King Street, St Pancras, London/Middx.
Frederick married Adelina Pattie Bynoth of Hertford, the daughter of Thomas and Adeline Bynoth in 1898. The marriage was registered in Edmonton, Middx. They went on to have three children, Dorothy May, Ivy Winifred and Leonard Frederick Barnett.
1901 Census records Frederick (24) married to Adelina, they have a daughter Dorothy (2), living at 27 Rounton Road, Holyfield, Waltham Abbey, Essex. His employment is give as a, Chargeman at the Cordite Factory.
1911 Census, Frederick and Adelina have three children, Dorothy (12), Ivy (5) and Leonard (1) they are now living at 20 Devon Road, Tottenham, Middx. Frederick is now employed as an Insurance Agent.
Wartime Service
Frederick enlisted at Tottenham, posted to the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) with the service number GS/65025.
On completion of his training Frederick was sent to the Western Front. We was Killed in Action during The Third Battle of Ypres (31st July – 10th November) on 4th August 1917, aged 41, he has no known grave, he is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial in Belgium to the missing. Additional Information
Adelina received a Grant of £5, on 15th September 1917, and a widow’s pension 22/11 (£1-2-11) a week from 25th February 1918, for herself and two children, the pension was reduced to 18/9 a week from 13th March 1918, after the death of daughter Ivy, and his effects of £2-17-08, pay owing and his war gratuity of £3.
Daughter Ivy Winifred Barnett died on 12th March 1918, aged 12, Ivy is buried in Cheshunt Burial Ground, Burry Green Road, Cheshunt.
The SDITGW record “FORMERLY 205429 R.A.S.C.” no record was found to confirm this.

“. . . ALSO FREDERICK GEORGE BARNETT FATHER OFF THE ABOVE KILLED IN ACTION 4TH AUGUST 1917, AGED 41 YEARS
ON THE RESURRECTION MORNING
SOUL AND BODY MEET AGAIN,
NO MORE SORROW, NO MORE WEEPING,
NO MORE PAIN.”
