Pre War

Albert Charles Porter was born in 1894 in Barking, Essex, the son of Albert and Ruth Porter. On the 1901 Census he was living with his family on 60 Larfield Road, Lewisham, London, where his father was working as a house furnisher. By 1911 they had moved to 63 Park Grove Road, Leytonstone, where Albert was working as a house decorator's assistant. 

Wartime Service

He enlisted at Westcliff on Sea, Essex and served in the Essex Regiment from 10 August 1915. 


He died from wounds received in action. 

Additional Information

His father received a war gratuity of £3 and pay owing of £3 3s 4d. His father, Mr A J Porter of 29 St George's Park Avenue, Westcliff-on-Sea, ordered his headstone inscription: "THEIR GLORY SHALL NOT BE BLOTTED OUT".
