Pre War

William James Sturgiss Grove Poole was born on 15 August 1882 in Timaru, Christchurch,  New Zealand, the son of  Thomas and Catherine Poole. He lived at Charlton, Victoria and worked as a Steward. His brother Frederick Poole, lived at 197 Dorcas Street, South Melbourne, Victoria. 

Wartime Service

He enlisted on 16 September 1914 as a Private in 7th Battalion, 'F' Company. 


His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A20 Hororata on 19 October 1914 and he served in Gallipoli and France. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 5 August 1916 and died on 9 August 1918 during an attack on a German machine gun post.
