Frederick James Barker was born in April 1872 in Sandridge, Hertfordshire, to William Barker, age 31 and Esther nee Norman, age 32.
He was the fifth of five sons and following Frederick’s birth , two daughters were born over the next four years.
Frederick was baptised at St Leonards Church, Sandridge, Hertfordshire, on 6 Oct 1872 .
His mother died in the Spring of 1880, and in the 1881 census Frederick was living with his widowed father and four brothers.
All lived in Sandridge, Hertfordshire, Frederick was a recorded as a scholar.
Frederick married Gertrude Binnell on 30th September 1899,in Edmonton, London when was 27 years old.
In 1901 Frederick and Gertrude are living at 94 Blackwall Buildings, Whitechapel and he is recorded as a Water Company labourer.
In 1902 Frederick becomes a father for the first and last time, a son, Harold Frederick born on 13th July and baptised later that year on the 5th October.
At that time Frederick and family were living at 77 Redwald Road, Clapton Park and his occupation is a Meter Inspector.
In the 1911 census Frederick, Gertrude and Harold are living at 85, Hassett Road, Homerton, London and his occupation was a Meter Fixer, employed by the Metropolitan Water Board.
