Charles Clarke Pocock was born 17th September 1889 in Willesden, Middx. and baptised on 2nd February 1890 at Willesden St Mary, Brent. The 1891 census shows him living with his parents at Craven park, Willesden. His parents were John Pocock and Josephine Ann (nee Clarke), he had one brother, John Hyde and four sisters, Mabel Louise, Maud Sarah, Constance Rose and Ada.
He attended Bengeo Prep School in 1901 aged 11 and went on to Haileybury College, 1903 – 1907. In 1911 he was living with his widowed father and sisters at Widcombe, Grange Road, Sutton, Surrey and his employment was listed as a Mercantile Clerk, while his father was listed as a Fruit Broker.
Wartime Service
Charles was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the East Surrey Regiment in 1914 and went to France on 8 Oct 1915.
In March 1916 while Acting Lieutenant his unit were stationed in the front line at Roclincourt near Arras, the weather was cold and snowing, Charles was with his men when at about 10pm on 14th a rifle grenade exploded on leaving the muzzle of the weapon and Charles was killed, another officer and one other rank were wounded.
