Son of James and the late Henrietta (nee CHESSUM) BANNISTER.
His parents married 1875 in the St Pancras, London, district. Henrietta died 1895 in Watford aged 46, and was buried 3 January in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; James died 4 July 1920 in Boxmoor, Herts, aged 70.
Sidney was born 28 August 1891 in Watford. He attended first Callow Land Infants’ School, Watford; then Callowland Board School from 10 January 1898 to 11 October 1901; then Alexandra School, Watford, from 21 October 1901 to 11 April 1906. He resided in Watford, and worked as a clerk in the Railway Clearing House.
On the 1901 Census, aged 9 he lived in Watford, with his widowed father and five siblings. On the 1911 Census, a railway clerk aged 19, he still lived in Watford, with three siblings.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Chelsea, London; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action in Syria.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, Sidney’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War two bombing. Service number appears as 591863 in some records.
