Born on 22 Jun 1887 in Yorktown, Surrey son of Lt. Col. Stephen Thomas Banning C.B.E., LL.D. (late Royal Munster Fusiliers) and Isobel Margaret (Moriarty) Banning of 50 Kensington Mansions, Earl's Court, London. Educated at the United Services College 1897-98 and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He married Mona Mary Chaplin (later Mrs Henry) on 25 Mar 1913. He was well-known as an athlete and horseman.

Wartime Service

Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant on 19 Sep 1908, promoted Lieutenant on 19 Mar 1910 and Captain on 30 Aug 1914. He entered France as battalion transport officer and was killed in action at Ypres while attached to Sir Douglas Haig’s Staff.

Additional Information

United Services College, Westward Ho, Devon amalgamated with Imperial Service College in Windsor in 1912 and then moved to Haileybury College, Hertford Heath in 1942.
