Born on 11 May 1896 in the Vicarage and baptised on 6 Jun 1896 in Cainscross, Gloucestershire son of the Rev. Ernest William and Lilias Mary (Whitley) Place later of Edgehill, Tennant Road, Wynberg, Cape Town, South Africa.

Wartime Service

Formerly Bombardier 680 S. African Field Artillery, he obtained a commission in the Northumberland Fusiliers and entered WW1 in Egypt in Jun 1917. He was killed in action in France.
