Albert Bandy was born in Wing, Buckinghamshire in 1890 to John Band, farmer, and Esther (nee Rogers).
On the 1891 Census the family of parents, Grace (born 1884), Rose (born 1887) and Albert were living at Albert Terrace, Littleworth, Wing.
On the 1901 Census the family of parents, Rose. Albert, May (born 1893), Percy E (born 1895), Ethel (born 1897) and Horace (born 1899.
On the 1911 Census Albert was working as a car groom and was a boarder at 19 Connaught Mews, Paddington. Albert’s parents (his father was shoeing and general smith) with Ethel, Elsie and Horace were living at London Road, Aston Clinton.
Wartime Service
Albert volunteered for 3 years service with the colours on 14 Sep 1914 as a territorial with King’s Royal Rifle Corps and was numbered 4994 in the rank of Rifleman giving his occupation as chauffeur. He was posted to 13th (Service) Battalion on 8 Oct 1914.
Albert was posted to 5th (Reserve) Battalion(19 Jul 1917and given a posting to BEF on 20 Jul 17. Although the KRRC accepted Territorial Soldiers it raised no Territorial Battalions so all men served in Regular Battalions.
Albert was posted to 12th(Service) Battalion on 21 Jul 1917and went to France on 30 Jul 1917 joining the as part of 60 Brigade, 20th (Light) Division at Ypres where Albert was involved in the Battles of 3rd Ypres, specifically Langemarck (16-19 Aug), Menin Road Ridge (20-25 Sep), Polygon Wood (26 Sep-3 Oct). He was posted to 13th(Service) Battalion part of 111 Brigade, 37 Division also at Ypres on 29 Oct 1917 taking part in Broodseinde (4 Oct0, Poelcapelle (0 Oct) and 2nd Passchendaele (12 Oct). The Division was transferred to the Somme Front during the German Spring Offensive.
Albert was appointed Lance Corporal on 25 Jul 1918.
He was killed In action on 23 Aug 1918during the Battle of Albert (21-23 Aug 1918) part of the Second Battles of the Somme. He was awarded the Military Medal.
