George Pitcher was born in 1891 at Canonbury, Islington, London to Ernest and Julie Pitcher.
On the 1911 Census he was living with his family at 11 Bycullah Road, Enfield and was working as an Assistant in the family business which dealt with the importing of clocks. His father died in 1914.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in London and served with the 2nd County of London Yeomanry (Westminster Dragoons).
He served in Egypt from 5 November 1914 and died on 10 March 1916 at Sidi Barrani, Western Egypt. (Medal Rolls Index states he was accidentally killed and the Register of Soldier's Effects states that he was drowned.)
Additional Information
His younger brother, Maurice, ordered the headstone with the inscription "BEATI MUNDO CORDE". His mother received a war gratuity of £7 and pay owing of £9 17s 2d. He left a will and probate was granted to his mother in London on 25 August 1916 with effects of £452 18s 11d.
