Pre War
Christopher Umberto BALINARI was born on 12th May 1893, in St Pancras, London, son of Bernardo Balinari a Waiter and Eliza Elizabeth Balinari (nee Pervin).
He was Baptised on 4th June 1893, at Saint Mary’s Church, Bryanston Square, St Marylebone, London.
It is believed his father Bernardo Balinari died in 1897.
No 1901 Census record was found for Christopher or his mother.
The 1911 Census records Christopher aged 17, living with his widowed mother at 135 Marylebone Road, St Marylebone, London, his occupation is given as a Chartered Accountants Clerk. His mother was a Theatrical Dressmaker.
Wartime Service
Christopher enlisted at St Pauls Churchyard, London, posted to the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) and issued with the service number G/3341. On completion of his training, he was sent to France arriving on 27th December 1914.
Seeing action on the Western Front, he was Killed in Action on 16th June 1915, at the Attack on the Bellewaade. (The attack on the Bellewaade occurred on the 16th June 1915). He has no known grave; he is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial to the missing in Belgium. Panel 6.
Additional Information
His effects of £4-15s-09d, pay owing and his war gratuity of £3, went to his mother Eliza.
His mother was awarded a Dependents Pension of 10/- a week from 8th August 1916, increased to 15/- a week from 21st October 1918. At the time of the increase Eliza was living at 3 Portius Road, Paddington Green, W. 2.
