George Samuel Baldwin was born in 1885 in Chalfont St. Giles, Bucks, son of George Baldwin (B 1862 in Seer Green, Bucks) and Elizabeth Baldwin (nee Worrel) (B1864 in St Leonards, Bucks). He was one of ten children.
1891 Census records George aged 6, living with his parents, sister Sarah 7, brothers Arnold 4, Alfred 3 and Maurice 1, at Burgess Farm, Miles Field, Wendover, Bucks.
1901 Census records George aged 16, and working as a Farm Labourer, living at home with his parents, brothers Arnold 15, Alfred 13, Maurice 11, Alexandra 6, sisters Alice 9 and Florence 4, in Rays Hill Bottom, Choulesbury, Hawridge, Bucks.
The 1911 Census records the family living in Heathend Wigginton, Wigginton, Herts. No 1911 Census record was found for George.
In 1916 George married Isabella Francis Ellis in St. George,s Hanover Square, Mayfair, London. The pension records indicate they had no children.
Wartime Service
George enlisted in Alton, Hampshire, posted to the Royal Field Artillery with the Service No. 176426.
He was Killed in Action by a shell on 23rd April 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial to the missing in Arras, France.
Additional Information
The value of his effect were £2-19s-1d, Pay Owing and £3, War Gratuity, which went to his widow Isabella.
