Pre War

Born in Agra, Frederick Baldock was the third son in a family of nine children born to John and Eliza Baldock. Their first three children, all boys, were born in India and the rest of their family in Bushey Heath. They settled at 10 Itaska Cottages, Windmill Lane, Bushey Heath and remained there for more than thirty years. John Baldock was a general labourer and when he died, Eliza worked as a district nurse. At the time of the 1911 census Eliza was resident at ‘Omega Cottage’, Bushey High Road, while Frederick and three of his siblings were at Itaska Cottage. Frederick was then 22.

Wartime Service

When war was declared Frederick enlisted in London as private 16914 with the Worcestershire Regiment, 3rd Battalion. He was killed in action in 3 September 1916 and remembered with honour at Lonsdale Cemetery, Authuille near the Somme. He is also commemorated on the Bushey Memorial and at St Peter’s Church, Bushey Heath.

His pension record shows the cause of death as "wounded and missing" and gives the dependant as Mrs Eliza Baldock (crossed though and annotated deceases) with the address as 10 Hasha Cottages, Windmill Lane, Bushey Heath. A pension of 5/- was granted with effect from 12/06/17.
