Son of James and Ellen (nee HOLDHAM) BAKER.
His parents married 19 January 1885 at St Andrew’s, Fulham, London. James died 1923 in Watford aged 71, and was buried 12 October in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Ellen died 1936 in the Watford district aged 80.
Charles was born 1 April 1892 in Harrow or Wealdstone, Middx [not Watford]. He attended first Callowland Infants’ School, Watford; then Callowland Board School from 9 January 1899 to 11 October 1901; transferred to Alexandra School, Watford, 21 October 1901 to 22 December 1903; finally back to Callowland Board School from 11 January 1904 to 29 March 1904 and 7 February 1905 to 1 April 1906. He worked for the London & North Western Railway Company at the Carriage Depot, Watford.
On the 1901 Census, aged 8 he lived in Watford, with his parents and six siblings. On the 1911 Census, a carriage cleaner aged 18, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and three siblings.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Woolwich, London; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 25 August 1915, and was killed in action or died on 25 November 1915.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, Charles’ Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
