Born Liberton, Midlothian. Son of Sir William Baird, Bart. and the Hon. Lady Baird, of Saughton Hall, Midlothian; husband of Violet Mary (Croft) Baird, of Wareside, Ware, Herts.

Wartime Service

Formerly served in the 7th Dragoon Guards. Died from wounds received in action and is buried in the Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.

Additional Information

William is also commemorated on his wodow's headstone in Wareside (Holy Trinity) Churchyard. His part of the inscription reads:

IN LOVING MEMORY OD VIOLET MARY BAIRD OCT. 9 1876 – OCT. 17. 1947
WIFE OF CAPTAIN W.F.C. BAIRD
BORN APRIL. 18. 1885 – DIED NOV. 5. 1914 FROM WOUNDS RECEIVED IN ACTION IN FRANCE, AND IS BURIED AT BOULOGNE.
