Pre War

Born in 1893 in Wormley, Herts, son of Charles and Ellen Pickett.


On 1911 Census he was living with his family at 26 Lordship Road and working as a general labourer. Married Lilian Florence Meering on 20 November 1915 at the Registry Office, Edmonton. On enlistment was living at 8 Lordship Road, Cheshunt and working as a Nursery Hand. Later lived at 38 Swanfield Road, Waltham Cross.

Wartime Service

Enlisted on 15 December 1915 at Cheshunt, Herts and was mobilised to the Bedfordshire Regiment on 9 February 1916 (formerly 26041, Bedfordshire Regiment). Transferred to the Loyal North Lancs Regt in June 1916, then to the Manchester Regiment at the end of September.


He was promoted to Corporal (unpaid) in February 1917 which was finally confirmed in 8 May 1917. Served in France and Flanders Killed in action in Belgium during the battle for Polygon Wood, near Zonnebeke.

Additional Information

War gratuity of £8, awarded to widow Lilian F Glowers. N. B. widow Lilian married Arthur Glowers in 1918.
