Born on 14 Jun 1893 at Newnham-on-Severn, Gloucestershire son of the Rev. William Gordon Baillie and Mary Harriet (Evans) Baillie of Sutton Mead, Moretonhampstead, Devon. Educated at Haileybury College 1906-12.

Wartime Service

Was nominated for VC after the Battle of Ahwaz, Persia on 3 Mar 1915 but was awarded Military Cross (29 Oct 1915). In a later action the Ottoman forces laid siege to Kut-el-Amara in Iraq on 7 Dec 1915. There were 350 men of the 2nd Bn. Dorsets present of whom only 70 survived the siege. The British Forces surrendered on 29 Apr 1916. Lieut Baillie was killed during the siege.
