Pre War

Victor Auger was born in 1894 in Harston, Cambs to James and Sophia Auger.

On the 1911 Census he was living at 14 Barrells Down Road, Bishop's Stortford with his family and working as a Labourer. He married Florence Louisa Rist in 1916 in Bishop's Stortford and lived at 104 Dunmow Road, Bishop's Stortford, Herts.

Wartime Service

He enlisted age 17 years 6 months into the Territorial Force 1st Btn Hertfordshire Regt on 15 December 1909 for four years and re-engaged on 13 June 1913. He embarked from Southampton on 5 November 1914 and was promoted to Acting Lance Corporal on 12 February 1915. On 9 December 1915 he was discharged having served 4 years but re-enlisted in Hertford on 23 November 1916 and arrived in Boulogne on 12 April 1917.

Additional Information

His widow Florence received a war gratuity of £7 and pay owing of £3 19s 11d. Brother to Frank and Joseph Auger also named on the Bishop's Stortford Memorial. Also served under reg.no. 1304 (Herts Regt) and in Beds Regt (270718)
