Edward Ronald ASLIN was born in Hoddesdon/Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, (depending on the document) in 1897, son of William James Aslin a Grocer and Edith Mary Aslin, there only child.


1901 Census records Edward aged 4, living with his father William a Grocer, Draper & Post Master in, High Street, Sutton, (Isley of Ely), Cambridgeshire, his mother Edith was visiting her Aunt Elizabeth Tigg in Greenwich, London, on the night of the Census.


1911 Census records Edward aged 14, living with his parents, at 30 Northfield Roald, Ponders End, Middx.

Wartime Service

Edward enlisted at St Swithin’s Lane, London, posted to the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment), issued with the service number GS/24240. On completion of his training, Edward was sent to France on 1st April 1916, joining the 8th Battalion, in the field, he returned to the UK on 10th July 1916, possible wounded, returning to France on 23rd January 1917, joining the 7th Battalion on his return, he was transferred to the 10th Battalion, on the 9th February 1917.


He died on 21st March 1918, of wounds received in action. He is buried in Nine Elms British Cemetery in Belgium. Grave ref: X. D. 12. At the time of his death, he held the Rank of Corporal.

Additional Information

His mother received a dependents pension of 5/- a week from 6th November 1918. His effects of £8-06-11, pay owing and his war gratuity of £10-10-00, went to his father William.
