Haileybury College Cloister Wall Memorial, Hertford Heath

Pre War

Born 3 Jan 1883 in the Vicarage, Hallow, Worcestershire son of Rev Herbert George and Louisa Harriet (Isaac) Pepys and was living in Hallow in 1891. Educated at Haileybury College 1896–1900 and The Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Lived in Great Malvern in 1901. Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant on 18 Jan 1902. Served with the West African Regiment as Lieutenant from 1908 to 1913. Obtained his company on 24 May 1913 and re-joined the Worcestershire Regiment. He married Maud Mael Foster in Iffley, Oxford on 27 Jul 1914 and later lived at Newlands Ash, Surrey.

Wartime Service

Entered France at Boulogne on 14 Aug 1914. He sustained a gunshot wound to the chest when leading A Coy. in a charge at the Battle of the Aisne and died in hospital at Chateau de Vermeil.
