Pre War

Born Marylebone, Middlesex. Birth registered 2nd quarter of 1883. Son of the late James Robert and Emma (nee MIDDLEDITCH) PEACHEY; husband of Hilda Maud (nee MAY) PEACHEY of Watford.

His parents married 9 October 1864 at Holy Trinity, Haverstock Hill, Middx.  Emma died 1893 aged 50; John died 1898 aged 59; both in the Marylebone, London, district.

On the 1891 Census, aged 7 he lived in Marylebone, with his parents and three siblings.  On the 1901 Census, he is proving elusive, but in the 1911 census John Peachey was recorded as living at 152 Prince of Wales Road, London NW. He was aged 28 and a L.N.W.R. porter born in Marylebone. Their son John Peachey is aged 1 and was born in Hampstead.

Officially recorded as born in Marylebone, Middx. and was living in Rickmansworth when he enlisted in Watford.

Wartime Service

Died of wounds in the 32nd Stationary Hospital at Aubergue near Wimereux on 16th November 1916, aged 35.

He was probably wounded on the north bank of the Ancre at the Battle of Ancre on 13th November 1916. The right of the main assault was carried out by the 63rd (Naval) Division. The lines of assault were formed under cover of darkness as the assembly trenches were inadequate and under direct observation from the enemy lines, although bad weather screened them.

The 190th Brigade was not naval and included the 4th Bedfordshire's and was a held in reserve. They became aware that a hitch had occurred and pushed forward hoping to retrieve it but were involved in some fierce fighting with heavy loss.

John died at No. 32 Stationery Hospital, Wimereux, of wounds received in action.
