Royal Masonic School Memorial, Rickmansworth

Pre War

Born on 31 Oct 1878 in Piccadilly, London son of Richard Thomas and Annie Payne. Educated at the Royal Masonic School 1888-93.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in the Royal Navy on 6 Jun 1894 and first served on HMS Pembroke. He served his fourteen years, returned to the service on the outbreak of WW1 and served on a destroyer in the North Sea. He was discharged as medically unfit in May 1915 from an illness which he contracted in the Dardanelles but rejoined at the end of that year and served on Phaeton which brought down Zeppelin L 19. He died of wounds
