His widow was Isabella Tate (born 3 November 1884), whose address was Hillfield Park Gardens, Aldenham before she moved to 27 Mill Street. Airdrie, Scotland. They had two children: Margaret Alice born 28 February 1915 and Edward John born 27 October 1916


The Soldiers Died In The Great War (SDITGW) database records that he was born in Kilcunguhar, Fife  and he enlisted in Watford.

His widow was awarded a grant of £5 and then a pension of 25s 5d a week from 3 June 1918, later amended to 30s.
