Pre War
William James TARSEY was born in Battlers Green, Nr. Bushey, Hertfordshire, in Late 1890, son of William Chas/Charles Tarsey a Labourer and Sarah Ann Tarsey (nee Potton). One of their eleven children although one died in infancy. His parents married on 10th January 1885, in Studham, Beds.
William Jr. was Baptised on 12th November 1890, in Radlett, Herts.
1891 Census records William Jr. aged 5 months, living with his parents, brothers Harry (6), Arthur (2) and sister Emma (4), at Rush Green Farm Cottage, Denham St Mary, Bucks.
1901 Census, William (11), is living with his parents, two brothers and three sister at 19 Main Road, London Colney, Herts.
William Jr. enlisted in 1909, in the Bedfordshire Regiment. The 1911 Census record William as aged 18, single and a Private in the 4th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment, Stationed at the Hertford Militia Barracks in Hertford. His parents and four sisters are living in High Street, London Colney, Herts.
It is believed William Jr. was living at 29 Lamb Lane, Redbourn, Herts, in Abt. 1914.
It is not known when William Jr. was transferred from the Bedfordshire Regiment to the Yorkshire Regiment with the service number 9698.
Wartime Service
At the outbreak of war William Jr. was mobilized for war service and sent to India, joining the 1st Battalion, Alexandra Princess of Wales Own (Yorkshire Regiment), serving at Poona, Rawl Pindi and on the North West Fronter. He was taken ill and sent to hospital where he died on 21st October 1918, aged 27, of Influenza. He is commemorated on the India Gate Cemetery Memorial. Face 1.

The Register of Births, records William as “TARSBY” not Tarsey.
SDITGW give his place of birth, as Iver, Bucks, this is incorrect.
