Pre War
Thomas Parker was born in Bishop's Stortford, Herts in 1879 to William and Elizabeth Parker. He had a twin sister called Lydia as well as several other siblings.
He married Annie May Cooper in 1905 and on the 1911 Census he is shown as already being a serving soldier/ gunner in the Royal Field Artillery. He and his wife and three children (Elizabeth, William and Violet) were living at Sandy Lane, Crookham, Hants. They later a son George, born in May 1914. His widow later lived at 3 Oakley Terrace, Flamstead End, Cheshunt.
Wartime Service
Being a serving soldier he was one of the first to be sent to France and he arrived there on 16 August 1914. He served with the Royal Field Artillery, C Battery, 155th Brigade and was killed in action on 7 October 1918 during the Battle of Cambrai.
Additional Information
His widow Annie received a war gratuity of £24 10s and pay owing of £25 16s 2d. She also received a pension of £1 13s 9d a week from 28 April 1919. His wife, Mrs A M Parker of 3 Oakley Terrace, Flamstead End, Cheshunt, Herts, ordered his headstone inscription : "HE GIVETH HIS BELOVED SLEEP".
His younger brother Private 33082 Bertie Parker of the 1st Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment was Killed in Action on 23rd April 1917. His father William died in 1894, aged 48, in Bishops Stortford, Herts.
