Son of the late George and Hannah (nee SARSON) ADLARD.

His parents married 5 June 1897 at St Nicholas’, Elstree, Herts.  Hannah died 1898 in Elstree aged 21, and was buried 28 May at St Nicholas’, Elstree.  George sailed on the Bavarian Liverpool to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, 30 March 1905, a labourer aged 31, and died 21 March 1918 in Cranbrook, British Columbia, aged 43.

George was born 1898 in Elstree, and baptised 12 June 1898 at St Nicholas, Elstree.  He attended St Nicholas’ School, Elstree.

He has an entry in the National Probate Calendar.

On the 1901 Census, aged 2 he lived in Elstree, with his SARSON grandparents.  On the 1911 Census, at school aged 12, he lived in Boreham Wood, Herts, with his SARSON grandparents.

Wartime Service

He attested for the Duration of the War 2 December 1915 in Watford: a motor driver, 5’6½” tall.  He was mobilised 11 May 1916, appointed Lance-Corporal 3 July 1916, promoted Acting Corporal 24 March 1917, and confirmed Corporal 16 April 1918.  He was formerly Private 28146 Middlesex Regiment, transferred to the East Surrey Regiment 1 September 1916 Corporal G/38052, and transferred to the Durham Light Infantry 9 April 1918.  


He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action.
