Christ Church Memorial, Watford

Pre War

Son of Thomas and Edith Eliza (nee CAVES) PARKER of Watford.

His parents married 21 September 1891 at the Parish Church of St Marylebone, London.  Thomas died 20 January 1922 in Watford aged 56, and was buried 26 January in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Edith died 9 September 1929 in Watford aged 65, and was buried 12 September, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.

Henry was born 21 August 1894 in Harlesden, London, and attended St Matthew’s School, Oakley Square, London N.W.; then Alexandra School, Watford, from 14 April 1902 to 7 April 1909.  He resided in Watford.

On the 1901 Census, aged 6 he lived in St Pancras, London, with his parents and three siblings.  On the 1911 Census, an apprentice aged 16, he lived in Watford, with his parents and five siblings.

Wartime Service

He enlisted at Edward Street, London, and first served in the Egyptian Theatre of War. 

He was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 10 April 1915, and died at Gallipoli of exposure.

There is a Death announcement for Henry in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 15 January 1916.


Unfortunately, Henry’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
