Son of Lieutenant-Colonel Charles and Maude de Whyte (nee WHYTE) ADAMS.
His parents married 12 March 1891 at St Thomas’ Cathedral, Bombay, India. Charles died 14 May 1948 in Watford aged 88, and was buried 19 May at Holy Cross, Sarratt, Herts; there is a Death announcement for him in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 28 May 1948.
Auriol was born 15 November 1892 in India, and baptised 22 December 1892 at Palamcottah, Perambore, India. He attended Elstow School, Kempston, Beds, from 1907 to 1911.
He has an entry in the National Probate Calendar.
On the 1901 Census, presumably the family were still in India. On the 1911 Census, aged 18 he was a scholar at Elstow School.
Wartime Service
He attested 19 April 1915 at Lincoln’s Inn, London, in the Territorial Force 4 years service in the U.K.: aged 22, 5’6″ tall, C of E; Private 3289, having previously been in the Lincoln’s Inn O.T.C. He was discharged in consequence of appointment to commission with the 10th Battalion, Royal Lancaster Regiment 20 August 1915, which he joined 10 September 1915; his next-of-kin was his father of London W.C. He was gazetted temporary Second Lieutenant 21 August 1915, was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action.
