George William Evans Pallett was born in Edmonton in 1893. He was the son of Thomas Pallett, wheelwright, and Sarah Mary (nee Greenway) of 20A, Elsham Rd., Kensington, London. George had two elder Sisters Hilda May (born 1889, Caroline Ann (born 1891).


On the 1901 Census the family of parents, Hilda May, Caroline Ann, George and a servant Hannah Evans were living at 14 Tower Street, Dudley, Worcs. The father Thomas was a coach builder Manager.


On the 1911 census George was an insurance clerk and living with his parents, Hilda May (P.O. telephonist), Caroline Ann (a cashier) at 67 Kings Road, Gravelly Hill, Birmingham. His father was a commercial traveller for a Brewery.

Wartime Service

No Service Record was found for George. He enlisted at Westminster as a Territorial Soldier in the London Regiment, 1/16th (County of London) Battalion (Queen’s Westminster Rifles) as Rifleman 2949 while resident in Potters Bar. His Service number of 2949 suggests he enlisted in Sep or Oct 1914.


He landed in France on 24 Jan 1915 to join his Battalion who were part of 18 Brigade, 8th Division. George was reported killed in action on 4 Jun 1915.

Additional Information

War Gratuity of £3 and arrears of £3 13s 9d was paid to his father.
