Pre War

Herbert was born on 5 Jan1897 to Samuel Abrams, a bricklayers labourer and Sarah (nee Henley). They were living at Old Bell Lane, Harpenden. Herbert had an elder sister, 3 younger sisters and a younger brother. In 1911 the family were living at Maple Road, Luton.

Wartime Service

Herbert was enlisted in 2/5 Battalion of the Essex Regiment as Private 3505. At some later time he transferred to Royal Sussex Regiment as Private G/14839 firstly in 13th (3rd Southdown) Battalion and then 7th (Service) Battalion. 18 Sep 1918 was the opening day of the battle Epehy,


Herbert was killed in action and is buried in Epehy Wood Farm Cemetry, France.
